Overall the Tech Was Good
I wish the outcome could have been better news about our heating unit, but overall the tech was good. We did ask for a new smart thermometer to be installed, and that was done. We found out that wasn't the problem with no heat, though. Will have to check around for the best price for that.

Not only were they responsive
As the weather started getting cold, I decided it was time to test my old gas furnace, and I found that it would not heat up—the igniter came on, but no gas was supplied. This happened a few years before, but I got it going by banging on the gas valve with my screwdriver handle as it was turning on, and I got it to work for a few years. This time, though, it just would not work, so I called Cali HVAC after checking reviews here and elsewhere. Oleg came out within a day, spent at least an hour or more, and found that the circuit board was not sending the voltage to turn on the valve, so he got a new board, installed it, and now the valve itself would not fire. So I needed both the board and the valve. They did not charge me for the extensive service call, unlike many others.
Before deciding what to do, I called a couple of other companies to get a ballpark estimate assuming this was the problem, and they were both higher, so I accepted Cali's bid. It took them a day to get the part, and Oleg returned to my house and replaced the parts, with no surprises.
Not only were they responsive in coming out, but he always came when he said he would, and messaged me when on the way. He was very informative and explained everything he did to determine the problem. Long ago I worked doing electronic repairs to stereo equipment, including fixing and modifying high-end test equipment for Ray Dolby's personal equipment (he was the inventor of Dolby Noise Reduction). So I know a bit about testing, and I performed the same tests as Oleg to confirm the problem. So I know they didn't oversell the service. I could have probably done some or all of the work myself, but I have no experience with gas appliances and didn't want to learn at my age (I'm retired for 10 years).
